The effect of a weight blanket

When we use a weight blanket, the body naturally releases the calming and "feel good" hormone oxytocin. It is often compared to the feeling of being held. Through an increased feeling of security, a weight blanket can contribute to increased relaxation and facilitate falling asleep. Our blankets can also be used to facilitate relaxation even during the waking and active time of the day.

Made of 100% natural materials

At Wesomnia, we always strive to think sustainably when it comes to materials, the environment and the production process. Our blankets are therefore made from a fantastic blend of organic lambswool and merino wool. The organic lamb wool is completely free of pesticides and no chemicals or antibiotics are used in the breeding of the lambs. Hand-stuffed with Swedish wheat.

Developed by a psychologist

In my work as a psychologist, I have seen what a positive effect weight blankets can have on the sleep, relaxation ability and mood of those who use them. From this experience came my dream of creating my own weight blankets. A weight blanket I myself would like to use.

What weight should I choose?

We have chosen to make two different blankets, one large on 10 kg which encloses the whole body and a smaller on 5 kg with a smaller size, making it easy to move around the home.

When we choose a blanket, we think it is important that you ask yourself the question;how do you think you will use your weight blanket

To be really satisfied, we think it is important that you feel that it is easy and comfortable to handle and use your weight blanket.

There are no medical studies that clearly say which weight suits whom, but it is individual what exactly your body is comfortable with.

The large blanket, fits nicely as a beautiful interior detail at the foot end of the bed. Can then easily be pulled up over you when you go to sleep. Our small 5 kg blanket is easy to move around the home. Can easily be carried between sofa, job or yoga place and back to the bed where it also fits nicely as a decorative detail. Lightly lay on top of your existing quilt. Think about how you think you will use and enjoy our blankets the most. And feel free to try so you know what's best for you! (right to return in new condition).

Finally, use common sense when using our blankets, you should be able to easily remove the blanket and no small children should be left alone under our blankets.

Research and studies

Gravity blankets in various forms have been used for several years in healthcare, for example for depression, anxiety, neuropsychiatric conditions. Gravity blankets have been printed because patients have experienced and reported a positive effect. But it is only recently that more independent, scientifically randomized studies have been conducted. They have then had two groups who have had to try a lighter and a heavier weight blanket and when estimating with, among others, ISI (Insomnia Severity Index), it has been possible to see that sleep has improved significantly when using the weight blanket of 8 kg, cf. those who slept under the blanket that weighed 1.5 kg. It could also be seen that the negative symptoms that the test groups experienced during the day decreased with improved sleep quality. More well-done studies are underway, which feels exciting and important. Theory is that weight on different parts of the body, so-called "deep pressure stimulation" has a calming effect and that the pressure on the body increases the release of oxytocin which has a central role in being able to relax and fall asleep.

Care instructions

The organic lambswool and merino wool are naturally dirt-repellent (contains natural lanolin) and you only need to air the blanket in dry weather for a refresh.

Please note that our blankets are always stored dry as they are made of living material. Should you still get a stain, we advise you to wash locally (with a little wool wash or regular detergent and then dry the blanket with a hair dryer).

THE IMPORTANCE OF GOOD SLEEP HEALTH

Prolonged sleep deprivation can unfortunately have a number of negative consequences such as increased anxiety, depression and difficulty managing stress during the day. In short, our quality of life and energy during the day can deteriorate significantly if we get too little sleep over time. A weight blanket is not a guaranteed solution, but has helped many to naturally improve their sleep.
