Why it matters

Breathing is automatic, which means we don't think about it enough. When we don't think about it, we take shallow breaths, which can unsettle our nervous system and put us into fight or flight mode. When we slow down our exhalation and stop our shallow breathing, we can reduce anxiety, reduce stress, improve sleep, increase focus and so much more.
